Types of Family Photos You'll Find in Your Gallery from a Raleigh Family Photographer

Close your eyes and picture your typical family photo… I bet you thought of the kind where everyone is in matching outfits standing along side grandma and grandpa at the beach, everyone is smiling and the pose is your standard “we’re a happy family standing together.”

Well, I’m here to tell you that family photos can be more than that. Here are 4 types of family photos you’ll receive in your gallery:

  1. Action shots: One way to make everything less awkward for my clients is to have them interact with one another like they would if they were at home or at the park. This works especially well with children and it actually generates the cutest, most genuine smiles. Some of these action shots include tossing baby in air, a tickling session, having parents swing their kids as they walk towards the camera. Anything really that will elicit a laugh or smile that makes you forget that there is even a camera in front of you to begin with.

  2. Natural shots: Let’s be honest, kids are all super cute and expressive, but only when they aren’t being asked to pose and smile in specific ways. My goal is to get them to be authentic and themselves for their solo shots. Maybe it works with you standing behind me and making goofy faces at your toddler or maybe it’s asking your little one to show me how she plays with her stuffed bear. I have found that props go a long way to assist with this, but that it’s totally possible to get the best portrait shots with a few tricks.

  3. Cuddled Up shots: I love seeing shots of parents hugging their littles ones and embracing them in warm hugs. The littles kisses and hugs are so beautiful to capture and really focus on the connection and love that you have for one another. Plus it really gets everyone looking at each other rather than the camera. (Yay for distractions!)

  4. Pet shots: The definition of family extends out to our little fur buddies and I love when couples or big families ask to bring out their dogs or include their cats. Plus, it’s always fun to be a part of your photos where your kid and pet are interaction, instead of being the person who is capturing the moment. Memories last a life time and we make a lot of them with our fur babies, that’s for sure!
