Do you remember those late nights out with your best friends in college?
You’d gather in someone’s dorm and blast music as you all got ready. Sometimes the neighboring hall mate would come knock on the door and ask you to turn it down and you’d all roll your eyes and laugh and mock them, as if they could rain on your parade. The outfits would be changed, mismatched, and tried on until your friends felt like you looked like the main character for the perfect night out. Everyone would pass the devil red lipstick onto the next girl so that you’d all be matching in the deadliest, exciting shade of lipstick to ever exist.
What I loved about this editorial photo shoot was that we captured the exact care free feeling that we have when preparing for a night out with your ride or dies. These candid moments between friends not only evoke the emotions and tell the story of friends getting ready, but it captures the very essence of the kind of memories that you’ll one day tell your Grandkids. You just never know in the moment that this is THAT very moment until it’s all over and done.
I also appreciate and wish I could dabble more in editorial photography because of this entertainment factor and how there is so much creative freedom in how you capture these authentic moments. I didn’t really have to prompt a lot in this shoot because the girls were simply having a good time and giving me the very college girls night aesthetic that I was hoping for! You don’t even have to be there and you can tell that the girls are having an absolute blast, you can almost hear the music and taste the drunken giddiness flowing throughout the night!
