Funky, Retro Engagement at the Bowling Alley with Meghan & Councill

My favorite quote from Meghan & Councill when I was getting to know them was when they explained that they “started dating by accident, but now we’re getting married on purpose!” This not only made me laugh out loud, but right away I knew that we would have a fun time working together. Meghan & Councill shared that their dream wedding vision is for a big, bright, loud & fun party. They want disco balls, funky music, and their quirky nature was obvious when they requested to shoot their engagement photos at the bowling alley in Cary.

They had seen my previous work and mentioned that the non-traditional styles I’ve captured are what drew them to me. And the ability for me to capture the personality of the couple is evident in all my work. This made my alternative, inclusive photographer self smile big.

Meghan shares that Councill shockingly loves her big orange cat as much as she does and somehow has not tired of her playing Wham! exclusively and on repeat for weeks on end. (It’s a shock that he still let’s her DJ!).

When we were discussing their engagement photo vision, there was a lot of discussion of how to proceed. Luckily, Meghan & Councill were interested in my alternative engagement photo ideas. These ideas are often “out of the box” and what’s so fun about them is that I get to work together with the couples in style meetings, where we discuss the vision, come up with mood boards and shopped for outfits together. These consults are just one of the many things I like to provide as a photographer, so that I can provide my clients with a innovative and fun way to take pictures.

They had mentioned wanting to do an activity together, so that the fun is there on the page, and the photo itself is secondary to that. We discussed many different activities and tried to find a dive bar that would be a cool background, but in the end decided on the bowling alley. This manner of photography is really helpful when couples feel awkward in front of the camera, because it allows them to not feel forced or like they have to pose. There is just an easy, more candid style of representing themselves through a lens. And I mean, just look at the real smiles that Meghan & Councill share as they bowled and played arcade games.
