Fort Fisher Engagement at Kure Beach - Dulce & Eddie

It’s been about three years since I’ve had a true photo session a the beach even though I travel to Wilmington quite frequently to visit friends or get tattoos at my favorite shop Meow Meow. But when Dulce reached out and said that she wanted her engagement photos at the beach Fort Fisher immediately popped into my mind. When I was first starting my Raleigh wedding photography business I would travel to the beach a lot for engagement sessions and Fort Fisher was always my favorite. With such a variety of terrain and epic rocks (we will talk more about that later) it was always a one of.a. kind backdrop. Well Dulce and Eddie’s engagement session started out like any other, exploring the trees, avoiding the sand spurs, and then heading down to the beach for sunset photos. The waves were a little rougher than usual and while I was walking into the water, I totally tripped on a rock, busted open my knee and BROKE my camera (or so I thought) My 35mm lens went lens first into the rock and I saw the crack spiraling throughout. Luckily I had used my lens filter, which totally protected my lens (I always recommend using lens filters when possible and especially at the beach) Granted I did have to have my friend take it off with a screwdriver my camera was intact. After an emergency first aid kit, and my backup lens, and backup body I was able to finish the session with my 24-70. Needless to say I was so thankful that I always keep these items in my car.

A lot of people have asked What a Wedding Photographer Should Have in the Car With Them at Every Shoot! and here is list of other misc items that have come in handy:

A hammer, a screwdriver, toilet paper, paper towels, a towel, rope, a reflector, flashlights, a hand free lighting source, an inflatable pool, a jug of water, a measuring tape, a first aid kit, chalk, safety pins, bug spray, sunscreen, lint roller, static cling, baby powder, plastic wrap, tissues, makeup remover, mascara, deodorant, hair bow, sunglasses, chapstick, floss, granola bars or other snacks incase someones blood sugar is low, epi pen.  Needless to say I live in my car but these things have come in handy at one time or another and this isn’t even the comprehensive list.
