John's Graduation Session at UNC

John and I had the chance to walk around the UNC Campus to commemorate his undergraduate years at UNC. Even though it’s a big campus, there are several important places that a Tarheel should ask to incorporate into their graduation photos.

  1. Old Well: This iconic centerpiece of the campus is always featured in any photos that students grab on the campus, professional or not. It is unique and timeless in all seasons.

  2. Bell Tower: One could pose in front of the bell tower or with it in the background, but the best place to grab beautiful photos in your cap and gown are under it. With it’s light blue ceramics and complementing brick walls, it’s just such a light background that helps your Caroline Blue gown stand out more in your photos.

  3. The Library: Maybe you want to show off where you studied or the bench where you took a nap outside. Maybe you enjoy having the stacks in the background to convince your parents you did in fact use the library to study… atleast once in a while. The campus has two iconic libraries where you can reminisce on your undergraduate career and all the studying you go to to do solo or in groups.

  4. The Quad: In the very center of the quad, there is a UNC emblem engraved in the brick. If you stand at the right spot, not only is Wilson Library behind you, but also the tippity top of the Bell Tower. If you aim your camera just right, the bell tower will look like a dunce cap over the Wilson library, which for UNC Alumnus holds a sweet memory of campus stories.

  5. Kenan Stadium: Whether in the bleachers or on the field, there are many ways that you can commemorate the memory of cheering on the Tarheels at home football games. These are especially fun for group photos, see what I did here with a group of friends who just recently graduated!

  6. Coker Arboretum: Looking for a botanical background? This Arboretum is a luscious green garden that is the perfect background for some beautiful shots. It isn’t a super visited spot and is also very shaded for those grabbing photos in late Spring or Summer.

I’m sure there are so many other spots for Tarheels to grab their documentation of the unit. But for this Chapel Hill graduation photographer, these are some of the more common and well known spots!
