Tropical Destination Wedding in La Fortuna Costa Rica with Gissel & J

La Fortuna is a small town that is located in Costa Rica with beautiful rain forests, volcanoes and home of the Fortuna waterfall. When Gissel reached out about her destination wedding, I was immediately grateful for the opportunity to capture her wedding day in such a tropical paradise.

Being a destination wedding photographer definitely has it’s perks, you have the chance to travel to some place you have never been and see things you’ve never seen. However, the absolute best part of being a destination wedding photographer is … you have a chance to scout new places and practice your art in a totally different environment. After a while, since I have been doing photography so long in the NC area, everything becomes sort of predictable and easy… I love the challenge of being inserted into a new place and having to use what the couple has described to me to find what will be the best shots and angles for the best results.

But enough about me, let’s talk about why you should consider a destination wedding photographer… but more importantly one who is from home.

  1. Packages/ Engagement session: Finding someone who is from the area for your wedding might be great, but you might have to find an alternative photographer near you for your engagement shots or bridal portraits. This just means a lot more money spent when it probably could have been included in your wedding package… for more information about my packages, look here.

  2. Easy Communication: Good photographers are people that you can easily reach when you have a question or want to brainstorm ideas. It is absolutely unacceptable in my opinion for you to put so much time and money into something as big as your wedding day and end up with a vendor who is difficult to get ahold of.

  3. Wedding Style: Every photographer has a different style of work, but at least if it’s someone you have taken the time to look into and someone you’ve worked with, you already know what to expect and generally speaking it’s probably already something you love! You want the photos to be reminiscent of your style and you as a couple! So this is definitely a big thing to consider.

  4. Product: Delivery of the finished product whether it be a gallery, photo album, or prints may just be easier when it’s someone from home!

All in all, wedding photographers will ultimately find ways to deliver you their best product. But sometimes bringing in someone you have worked with or is from home might just make your wedding stress lower!
