LET’S GET INTO IT:
Key things to remember when you’re preparing for a mentorship: “Everyone Starts Somewhere.”
Not everyone’s starting point is the same and the path might not be the same as someone else. But no matter where you are I’m all about jumping into the deep-end, and that’s why I have a truly honest and almost cut-throat approach to mentorships.
I’m going to tell you that owning a business is HARD WORK! It’s long hours and late nights, but its also the most rewarding and exciting thing you can do with your life and career and that’s why you have to nurture your business and yourself whenever you can. I want to go ahead and congratulate you for taking this first step of even considering a mentorship. It’s been said before but INVESTING in yourself is so important. Whether that’s spending hours combing through message boards and Youtube tutorials or going straight to the source.
There is no wrong way to get information or education when it comes to your business. But if you choose to go to me, I’m going to bring my seven years of on hand experience and knowledge to you. I’m going to give you the real deal to every question you ask, the good and the bad, from traveling the world, to breaking your SD card, to meeting life-long friends, and receiving 8 page hate emails.
A Little About My Photography Journey:
My first year in business I only captured five weddings, under $1000 each, with a shitty crop sensor camera and a $100 50mm lens. I was so unsure of myself, my skills, my customer service techniques. All I knew was I wanted photography to be my career. So I put everything I had into it, and I made friends with other photographers in the industry. It was these connections that allowed me to grow quickly from referrals. (A perk I give to all my mentees). After doing a wedding show (honestly don’t knock it til you try it once) I was quitting my full time job and filling my calendar. A month before my first season I broke my leg - forcing me to shot 8 weddings on crutches and up my customer service skills. The next year I was flying all over the country and accidentally scheduled a wedding in Seattle on Friday and one in Raleigh on Saturday. After solidifying my processes, I was able to successfully take on over 35 weddings a year, all over the US - including Boston, Seattle, New York, and of course all over North Carolina.
A Little About My Credentials:
Have you heard the saying “Those who can’t do, teach?” Well I believe that is rampant within the photography community. There is so much misinformation out there and I want you to know there will no be “hype girl” here trying to sway you with “I’M GOING TO MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE” language. I’m here to help you work smarter, and harder to achieve those dreams. Besides my seven years of experience I have taught at Til Death Workshop in California and was a Co-Host of The Elemental Workshop in Asheville, NC. I only take on 1-3 mentee’s a year to ensure you each get my attention and hands on training. If you want to know more about what it’s like to learn from me, I have a great referral of past mentees who have all moved into successful full time photography roles.
